Kanye Would Say Tragic Structure Hates Black People

So, we are reading Oedipus Rex by Sophocles in Scriptwriting class. You know..The be a cocky jerk, kill your dad, shag your mom and then stab your eyes out? Yeah, that logical story! Anyway, we are discussing Tragic Structure and how Sophocles is the creator. According to Sophocles, you have to be in a heightened position and fall to be a truly tragic character. If Sophocles defines what should be tragic to me then I want a new definition. If this means you have to be a God or a King before people feel your pain than mother fuck a tragic structure (that doesn't care for the common man). We used Death of a Salesmen's Willy Loman, as an example of a person who is neither tragic or worthwhile...what? It was mentioned that no one should care for him because his life is already "meaningless" So I guess when he kills himself we shouldn't consider that the lowest point. If I can't feel for Willy Loman who can I give a shit about? The cliches include single mothers, gangbangers, disillusioned druggies and abandoned children in plays and texts. Cliches exist for a reason. It's called a cliche because the formula fits. There are plenty of people who hurt and who am I to say that they don't deserve to tell their story? Who really defines tragedy?

I saw a man die today. He flew head first off of his bike and into a tree. His belongings were scattered all over the road like children's toys And although he wasn't young I cant help but wonder if he belonged to someone, if he was rushing back to a house where someone was excited to see him-eagerly awaiting his arrival. I did not know his name and I imagine no one else around me did either. I saw a man die today. I think he belonged to someone.
